Avengers tower9/10/2023 ![]() Other locations featured in the game are epic too, but the Avengers Tower is certainly a unique environment to engage with Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ turn-based tactics. The Avengers Tower is as much a cinematic spectacle as it is a strong example of Midnight Suns' combat and boss fights, making it indomitable as a set piece arena. This is a great boss fight that introduces players to different grenades dropped on the stage, all while players continue to evade area-of-effect attacks from helicopters. The Avengers Tower stage also has a second phase to its combat mission that transitions players to another part of the roof where they must battle Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Crossbones. This gives the Avengers Tower a scale and scope unmatched in any location prior, even if that is a wholly visual effect. Moreover, players can use the camera to peer along the helipad’s edge and look down the skyscraper at its massive ‘A’ insignia. Not only does its oval helipad provide a unique ring-shaped arena, but as players swivel the camera around, they are able to see the entirety of Manhattan stretching out into the distance. The Avengers Tower combat mission set piece is multi-faceted. The Sanctum Sanctorum is the only other location that gives the Avengers Tower a run for its money in terms of mainstream recognition, but it is also visited multiple times and therefore has less of a dramatic impact in that regard. ![]() This does alleviate some of the game’s suspense and stakes, especially if players are more inclined to spend their time on general combat missions for additional resources instead of continuing with the narrative exclusively. This diversity makes Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Abbey feel like a home for the player and its characters, who are all encouraged to mingle and hang out leisurely between combat missions. The Abbey is a refreshing change of pace, which is good considering this is where players spend almost all of their time. Beyond its New York locations, the game takes place in locations unfamiliar to fans, and as such there is a lot of originality peppered throughout Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ narrative. Marvel’s Midnight Suns including the Avengers Tower may seem like an indulgent use of Marvel iconography, but it does not overwhelm the entire game. These sets all blend together aside from maybe Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Mid-Manhattan Museum, and the American Southwest’s deserts are understandably more plain with fewer things to look out on. Likewise, players spend as much time as they would like in New York City’s streets during the game’s opening. That is why seeing multiple relevant Hydra facilities is still engaging, though they may not leave any lasting impressions in terms of standing out from one another. Each combat mission’s gridless stage is its own set piece with environmental interactions that players can spend heroism on, but while they are always contained to a rigid arena, these sets establish the continuity of the world that Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ iconic characters inhabit. Marvel’s Midnight Suns has few spectacular set pieces, at least from a visual standpoint.
